Patience in Times of Upheaval

                                             Like the horse Shalako 

                                               Patiently waiting for 

                                                his morning breakfast or 

                                                for the evening hay biscuit 

                                                then obviously enjoying his food 

                                                with that faraway look in his eye.

                                                the petulant four year old in 

                                                an old man's body impatiently

                                                spewing forth unpleasant directives

                                                is the total opposite 

                                                creating havoc among 

                                                long suffering masses 

                                                of people longing for

                                                that faraway look 

                                                in each other's eyes

                                                oh, the patience required

                                                to see present humanity

                                                through this turbulent time......
