SALA opening at Tineke's Studio Sunday 2nd August 2015

On the left is our studio after we spent most of Wednesday afternoon deciding where to hang which painting to the best advantage regarding the light. Cher had her cast paper constellation including Pluto, hanging from the rafter and they look good with the light shining through the craters in all the pieces. Remember to click on all the photos to get a better look.
It is quite a job getting everything lined up correctly and evenly spaced.
On the right are Liz's digital prints which are fascinating in their composition.
The left one is very like a Jeffrey Smart painting,
linear and all it needed was a silent figure,
but the title is "The absence of presence" so it is eerily empty...
There is an edge to all these prints, a hawk with an exit sign in the sky and a beautiful butterfly on a heap of autumn leaves...
Catherine paints portraits as well as trees.
The trees are next to her house and they are all lemon scented gums which sway and bend in the strong winds we have at times. They are also notorious for dropping their limbs on hot summer days ....
Below are my mini-quilt booklets on the table as well as the Gothic book marks I made out of teabags and teensy pieces of knitting ....
Saturday was our first open day and I managed to attach the SALA posters to the street sign at the end of our road and hoped like hell it wouldn't blow away as we seem to be having a very cold, wet and blustery winter.
We had six people through about lunchtime ,
two of them all the way from the Barossa Valley.
They thought the posters we had been given to put up, very not notable and they do have a point.
Well, Sunday arrived and it was raining and windy....I shot up the road to put the signs up again while Catherine and Cher were nice and early to plate up the food we would have to go with our sponsor Hugo's wines. Liz and I brought ours in a little later. We were all set though by 11 am, having roped in my brother to do the wine serving. People started to arrive on the dot almost and in no time at all friends were greeting each other and chatting and looking at what was on display.
Above is part of the early crowd.
Meredyth made a wonderful speech highlighting each artist's start of  interest and development  in their chosen medium. Meredyth herself is a writer, philosopher and artist, her chosen medium being wood.
She created the processional cross for the Anglican church in McLaren Vale and also designed and made the trophy for the winning entry in the South Australian writers short story and poetry competition. The massive sugar gum at our gate she copied in fine scroll work some years ago before various limbs were sawn off.
And so we were launched and everyone returned to socializing and having a good time.....
